Measure the health risk of abdominal fat which is linked to incidence of health complications and disease like diabetes and cardiovascular problem. The apple shape are associated with obesity and linked to greater risk for health complications and diseases while the pear shape is healthy and acceptable.

For men: Recommended maximum is 0.95(anything below is considered to be a lower health risk as it indicates less fat is carried around the waist-Pear shape)

For women: Recommended maximum is 0.80 (anything above is of higher health risk indicating more fat is carry around the waist- Apple shape)

When measuring your waist; you should measure at the slimmest part of your waist with the measuring tape placed directly above your navel.
