Sawyer needs: Meet Sawyer, a 2-year-old male Cavapoo who is looking for a calm and patient home willing to dedicate time helping work through his fears. At 23 pounds, Sawyer is a bit on the heavier side and would benefit from a leaner physique to support his mild luxating patellas (slippy kneecaps).

Sawyer is a nervous and anxious boy who can get easily worried about his surroundings. Even with simple movements around the house it is not uncommon for him to get so worried he is cowering or fleeing to another room. When he flees, he can cause some scratches on hardwood floors. He’s currently on anxiety medication, which has been helpful in managing his nervous energy and reducing his anxiety. Sawyer is cautious about trusting humans but wants so badly to be nearby at all times. He is too fearful to walk in front of people most of the time, although he is making some progress with this. Someone to work with him on the heel command as well as other basic training commands would be very beneficial. He isn’t particularly food-motivated, and certain training tools, like clickers, can scare him. He does respond well to praise, so positive reinforcement and patience will be key.

This sweet boy gets along well with other dogs, but he can be a bit clumsy when excited or scared, so a sturdy and confident dog companion would be a good match although another dog is not a requirement. Sawyer enjoys playing with toys, especially indestructible toys he can chew on. He does have a tendency to chew pieces off or find things around the house to chew on. His favorite activity is cuddling on the couch and soaking up attention.

Sawyer rides well in the car and walks well on a leash as long as he is behind you. He is crate-trained but can whine on occasion if he hears humans and thinks he is missing out on the fun. His beautiful curly coat needs regular brushings and grooming, which he is such a good boy for. He does pretty well with pottying outside but can get easily distracted outside, so frequent potty breaks will be helpful.

If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion who just needs some extra time, training, and care to feel confident and safe, Sawyer could be the perfect fit for you. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, flea/tick and heartworm preventive, and microchipped. Sawyer’s adoption fee is $175.
