Thank you for buying a Zektor component switcher from HDTV Supply, Inc. Here are some hints for you to get better use out of your new Zektor switcher. 1. The unit produces very little heat but still allow 2", or more, above the unit to allow its minor heat to dissipate. 2. If you place the Zektor on another unit make sure you're not blocking the heat dissipation of that unit. 3. If possible, plug the Zektor into the same AC outlet that the device that you are plugged into. That minimizes any ground loops that could arrive. Also use AC Surge Protectors that are HDTV certified like the one we have at www.hdtvsupply.com 4. The unit can also function as a 1-in, 4-out 1080i component distribution device. The SPDIF and Toslink connections are not bi-directional, though. 5. The Zektor can also function as an RGB-H/V switcher by using the right and left analog audio inputs for switching the H/V synch lines. 6. The Optical (Toslink) and Coax (SPDIF) are both automatically converted to the other if you're low on digital audio inputs on you preamp/receiver. When either input is active, both signals are available on the outputs. 7. The Zektor switcher does not come with a remote control unless you were able to get in on one of our HDTV Supply specials that run from time-to-time. We recommend using a remote like the Home Theater Master MX-500 Remote Control, from Universal Remote Control Inc., which can be purchased from us. This remote can be easily programmed with a one-button push for your home theater system to do the following: a. Switch the (HD)TV to its appropriate input for the device you are switching, like a DVD player. b. Switch the Zektor switcher to the input for that device. c. Switch the amp to its appropriate audio input. We'll show you how to do that if you buy the remote control from us. 8. The switcher switches 1080p without any degradation so make sure your cables do the same. HDTV Supply tests and documents all of its component cables to pass a 720p/1080i, and above, signal without any video impact also. Please go to our store at www.hdtvsupply.com to see the various lengths we have for your home theater. 9. The Zektor remote control program has both discretes and non-discrete OFF/ON controls. We recommend you leave it on all the time for the convenience it provides to your home theater system. 10. Here are some ideas on how to mark and remember the 4-video inputs for your Zektor: a. Remember them alphabetically by the first-letter of the switched device (Video 1 through 40, like...(1) DVD, (2) PS2, (3) Sat and (4) Xbox. b. Remember them alphabetically by the first-letter of the manufacturers name of the switched device (Video 1 through 4), like...(1) Apex, (2) Motorola, (3) Pioneer, (4) Sony. c. Mark them using a yellow sticky pad cut to size above the light. d. Write the device with a white crayon above the light. 11. With a fully loaded HDS4 you will have 26-cables (5 X 5 with the HDS4 and 6 X 5 with the HDS4.2 + an AC cord) coming from it so place it so you can get to it easily for reconfiguration. 12. If you need more than 4 component inputs you can buy another Zektor and wire them in series giving you 7-ins and 1-out. Mention this when you buy it from us and we'll give you free UPS Ground shipping for your 2nd unit to tthe same address. 13. If you need more than 1 component output you can buy another Zektor and wire them back-to-back giving you 4-ins and 4-outs. Mention this when you buy it from us and we'll give you free UPS Ground shipping for your 2nd unit to the same address. 14. Good HDTV component cables are very important to use with the Zektor and ours are tested to 37 MHz to assure them passing a 720p/1080i signal without any impact.
