ACT-IR2000U FIR-USB Adapter FAQ

Q: What is IR2000U? What is its main feature?

A: The ACTiSYS IR2000U is a FIR-USB adapter for enabling fast IrDA wireless data communications through a PC USB port.

  • It is fully compliant to USB specification 1.1 (full USB speed: 12 Mbps) and IrDA specification 1.1. It supports FIR (4Mbps) and all SIR speeds (9600, 19200, 38400, 57600 and 115200).
  • It does not occupy PC's COM or Parallel port and has no complicated hardware resource setting and conflict, such as IO address / IRQ / DMA numbers.
  • It is PNP (Plug And Play) device and its installation is much simpler than any other IR adapters.
  • It shows full interoperability of USB devices and can work together with hundreds of other USB devices on the same PC if you have enough USB hubs.
  • You can unplug it at any time if you have not enough USB ports on your PC and need connecting other USB device temporarily. You need not remove and reinstall its driver for it.
  • It is bus-powered device and no external power supply needed.

Q: In which situation should I choose IR2000U instead of your other IR adapters such as IR210L/IR220L/IR2000L?

A: If you need FIR (4 Mbps) speed or there is no spare COM port on your PC for generic SIR adapter such as IR210L/IR220L. For example, the limited numbers of COM port on your PC have already occupied by mouse, modem, and PDA dock or digital camera.

Q: What is its system requirement? How can I know if my PC is USB-Ready?

A: Your PC should be USB-Ready and have full support to USB.

  1. Check your PC to see that if it has USB connectors on its case. If not, check its motherboard menu to see if it supports USB. It should have 8-pin or 16-pin USB connector (different board may have different type of connector). Buy an USB motherboard adapter and plug in the connector to the motherboard. Take care of the pin assignment. Any mistake may damage your system.
  2. Check the BIOS of your PC. You should find the item "USB Controller" in the Integrated Peripherals or PNP/PCI Configuration Setup menu. Enable it if it was disabled.
  3. You need win98, Win98 SE, Win millennium or Win2000. Windows 95 does not support USB.

You can download the USB Evaluation Utility (usbReady.exe Ver.3.01) from http://www.usb.org/shopping_bag.html

It will check if your system has:

  1. System software (OS) support
  2. System hardware support
  3. USB driver support
